Connect your AI

MIDI Genie writes music with an AI model from a provider you choose. You bring your own key, so you pay the provider directly for what you use, with no MIDI Genie subscription on top.

Get a key

Pick one provider to start. You can add the others later.

Most providers ask you to add a little credit before a key works.

Add it to MIDI Genie

The first time you open MIDI Genie, Settings opens by itself. Later you can find it in the top bar.

1. In Settings → Model, under Step 1, choose your provider.
2. Under Step 2 · your key, paste the key and press Save.
3. Choose a model from the list. Each provider has a sensible one already selected.
4. Press Test connection. You should see Ready with the model's name.

A ✓ next to a provider's name means a key is saved for it. Each provider keeps its own key, so you can switch between them at any time.

Which model to pick

• Start with the one already selected. It's a good balance of quality, speed and cost.
• Want to use an audio file? Choose a model with the hears audio badge. Other models can still read MIDI files. See Start from your own music.
• Larger models usually write more musical parts but cost more per request. Smaller ones are quicker and cheaper for simple changes.

The connection light

The top bar shows where you stand:

• Connected: all set.
• No key yet: add a key in Settings.
• Not tested: press Test connection in Settings.
• Not reachable: check your internet connection and your key, then test again.

Where your key is kept

Your key is stored in your computer's secure keychain and never shown again. It goes straight from MIDI Genie to your provider, because MIDI Genie has no server of its own. The first time each DAW uses the key, your computer may ask for permission. Choose Always Allow.
