Start from your own music
Already have an idea? Give it to MIDI Genie and ask for parts that fit it: strings under your piano, a counter-melody for your theme, or a variation of your idea.
Attach a MIDI file
Press Attach, or drop a .mid file anywhere on the MIDI Genie window. MIDI is read note for note. MIDI Genie shows what it found, such as the key, tempo and length, and suggests things to ask for.
Then ask, for example:

You can also attach a WAV or MP3. MIDI Genie listens to it and describes it (tempo, feel, sounds) and uses that as a reference. It doesn't transcribe audio into notes. For exact notes, use MIDI.
Listening needs a model with the hears audio badge in Settings → Model. If your model can't hear audio, MIDI Genie tells you before sending.
Press ▶ Preview on an attached file to hear it, or Remove to take it out.
Play your idea in
Listen to my channel catches the MIDI notes your DAW sends to MIDI Genie while it plays. Record or draw a part on MIDI Genie's channel, press Listen, play your project, then press Stop and use it.
It catches MIDI notes, not audio.
