Refine, takes and sessions
A take is one version of your idea. You can change it in plain words, keep several side by side and always step back to the one you liked.
Refine this, or start a new take
Above the message box, choose how your next message is used:
- Refine this changes the take you're looking at. You can step back if you preferred it before.
- New take keeps this take and starts a new one beside it.
Each result is labelled so you know what happened: New, Extended, Variation or Added part. If your request could mean two things, MIDI Genie asks, for example More bars after it or A new part alongside.
Change one track only
Type @ and a track's name, or press @ on that track. MIDI Genie tells you only that track will be rewritten. Press Use the whole take to go back to changing everything.
Instant changes
Some requests don't need new music, so they happen straight away:
- change an instrument: make the lead a flute
- transpose: up two semitones
- set the tempo: 90 BPM
- rename or delete a part
- undo, play or stop
- ask a question: what key is this in?
The takes strip

| ☆ / ★ | Star a take. Press ★ at the top to show starred takes only. Starred takes are never cleared out. |
| ↗ | Work from this take: new parts are written to fit it. |
| ⌫ | Undo the last edit. |
| ↺ / ↻ | Step back to the version before the last change, or forward again. |
| 🗑 | Delete the take. Its MIDI files go to the Trash. |
Sessions
A session is one conversation and all its takes. Press New in the top bar to start another. The current one is kept.
The home screen lists your sessions. Click one to pick up where you left off, or double-click its name to rename it. You can also switch or delete sessions from the session name in the top bar.
