Edit tracks and notes

Every take is real MIDI you can edit, right inside MIDI Genie, before it goes into your project.

Tracks

Each part of a take has its own track. On each one you can:

click the name to rename it
pick a sound from the built-in library
press M to mute, S to solo, or @ to aim your next message at that track only
set its volume with the fader (the level goes into the MIDI file too)
press × to delete it (the takes strip can bring it back)

Press + Track to add an empty track, then ask MIDI Genie to fill it. Click a track to open it in the piano roll.

Sounds

The sound picker has hundreds of instruments and a set of drum kits, grouped by family: pianos, guitars, basses, strings, synth leads, pads and more. Type to search, for example strings, horn or pad. Use the arrow keys to move through the list and hear each sound.

These sounds are for auditioning. In your DAW, the MIDI plays whatever instrument you choose.

The piano roll

To	Do this
Add a note	Double-click empty space
Move a note	Drag it
Change its length	Drag its right edge
Delete notes	Right-click, or select and press `Delete`
Select several	Drag a box on empty space. Hold `Shift` to add. `⌘` `A` selects all.
Nudge	Arrow keys. `↑` `↓` move a semitone, with `Shift` an octave.
Hear a pitch	Click the keyboard on the left
Play from a point	Click the ruler
Zoom	`⌘` + scroll for time, `Alt` + scroll for pitch, or press Fit
Undo / redo	`⌘` `Z` / `Shift` `⌘` `Z`

At the bottom of the piano roll:

Snap sets the grid, from whole notes down to 1/32 and triplets.
Vel shows note velocities.
Ghost shows the other tracks faintly, so parts line up.

Tempo and playback

Press Space to play or pause. Change the tempo in the top bar: the take speeds up or slows down, and the notes stay the same.
