Using it in FL Studio
The MIDI Genie plugin is tested in FL Studio. Here's how to set it up and move MIDI both ways. Using the web app? Download the .mid and drag the file into the Playlist.
Load it
- After installing, open FL Studio and go to Options → Manage plugins.
- Tick Verify plugins and press Find more plugins.
- In the Channel Rack, press + and choose MIDI Genie. It's an instrument, so it goes in the Channel Rack, not the Mixer.
- Press Log in with MIDI Genie the first time. See Install the plugin.
If Combine VST and VST3 versions is on, you may only see one MIDI Genie entry. That's fine: either one works.
Get MIDI into your project
- Drag a track's handle onto the Playlist or onto a channel in the Channel Rack.
- Or press Save as… and drag the saved file into FL Studio.
MIDI Genie itself makes no sound when you press play in FL Studio. It gives you MIDI to play with your own instruments.
Give MIDI Genie your patterns
- From a file: right-click a pattern, choose Export as MIDI file, then drop the file on MIDI Genie.
- Live: route the pattern to MIDI Genie's channel, press Listen in MIDI Genie and play. See Start from your own music.
Tempo
MIDI Genie follows FL Studio's tempo by default. To set your own, turn off Follow host tempo in Options.
If typing doesn't work
FL Studio sometimes keeps key presses for its own shortcuts. Click inside MIDI Genie's message box first, then type.
